Umbrella parade will mark Mardi Gras in Uffculme

Celebrate Mardi Gras in Uffculme.

On Wednesday, February 19, Gordon’s Jazz Club will be enjoying their very own mini Mardi Gras celebration, which will include a brolly parade.

The holiday of Mardi Gras is celebrated in all of Louisiana, including the city of New Orleans, with the celebrations concentrated for about two weeks before and through Shrove Tuesday, which this year is February 25.

Jane Mulholland explained: “A brolly parade is a bit of follow my leader meets walking along in time to the music – approximately – and going for a wander, following the band.

“It might be outside, or we may stay indoors, whatever seems a good idea for those involved and what the weather’s doing.

We draw the line at golf umbrellas – especially if we have to stay indoors – apart from that the sky’s the limit. You can decorate a brolly, or not, whatever you prefer. There will be a few spare brollies available in case anyone forgets but joining in is not compulsory. It’s all just for a bit of fun.

“Come along to Magelake Pavilion, Uffculme  EX15 3DP and enjoy an evening of great Jazz – mainly New Orleans and Traditional style – in a friendly, comfortable venue with easy parking, a bar and a good selection of soft drinks too,  all for £7. Doors open at 6:45 pm.

“There’s more information on the Facebook page, ‘Gordon’s Algiers Strutters’ but if you have any questions or if you’d like seats reserved, phone 01884 243461 by noon on the February 19 please.”
